Clinical Supervision

I have a particular interest, knowledge and experience of Clinical Supervision, having personally trained over 2000 practitioners in Clinical Supervision skills. These practitioners have come from a diverse range of professional backgrounds and contexts. Additionally of course, I continue to clinically supervise numerous practitioners both in groups and individually.

Consultant Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, CBT Therapists, Counsellors, Coaches and Trainees (of a range of professions) make up my current supervisees.

My starting point is always a shared understanding regarding Clinical Supervision's purpose and how to get the best and more effective experience to achieve it. The options are typically very diverse - from (re)accrediation requirements through practice development and insight to restorative/supportive supervision.

Context also impacts on the supervision experience. Private vs organisational, NHS vs LEA vs Third Sector vs Commercial are all considered.

Not surprisingly these different requirements also make different demands on both supervision style and content.

I am also a very strong advocate for the "supervision of supervision" and supervises a number of Clinical Supervisors. All too often supervisors are "left to get on with it", even assuming they've received training in Clinical Supervision in the first place. Given the increasing legal liability for Clinical Supervisors combined with an extending consumerist model of practice, Clinical Supervisors often feel cast adrift with little support. I provide a protective and supportive counterbalance against this trend.
